Happy 1st Birthday Cora!!! {Atlanta Portrait Photographer}

It’s been such an honor capturing this little lady’s first year!! From her newborn session just after the “Snowmageddon” last year, her 3m, 6m (where falling leaves were the coolest thing EVER), 6m with her family (so distracted by her new ability to crawl and stand and not sit still), her 1st Halloween as an adorable (and enthusiastic) cheerleader…and this weekend I captured her 1st Birthday portraits….and this beautiful little girl’s first steps on her own! Sara & Jon, thank you for letting me be a part of her life! Jackson, thank you for smiling for me and holding my hand for our portrait sessions…you make my heart happy sweet boy & you are a wonderful big brother!

Sunsets Make Me Happy…. {Atlanta Portrait Photographer}

Sunsets make me happy….I’ll pull over where ever, when ever to capture a beautiful one. I’ll sit there in silence and watch the world change colors until it’s dark. It’s beautiful, it’s amazing, it’s peaceful….and it’s my happy place. If it happens to be at the beach, well, it just doesn’t get any better than that!

On Saturday I was driving home from a very long day and saw this. I made a U-Turn, pulled into a construction site and just enjoyed this beauty of nature. I was very grateful to have my camera with me (these usually are taken with my iPhone)! So please enjoy these with me :) !

When Your Child Asks Santa For a REAL Unicorn…Christmas gets Complicated!!

This year, while sitting on Santa’s lap…my daughter asked her favorite Jolly Giver of Gifts to Good Little Girls….for a REAL unicorn. My daughter is no dummy, she was specific. She wanted to stuffed animal, no pillow pet, no porcelain replica. She wanted the prancing, eating, hair waving in the wind REAL unicorn. Santa of course told her that’s what he’d bring her. So yeah, well, that’s awesome. Could I interest you in a real pony?

Apparently Ladies & Gentlemen, unicorns are not real. I know, I know…this is shocking. It most certainly would have been to my 4.5 year old. I racked my brain for ways to handle this. I asked my Facebook friends…who offered the Shell Silverstein Poem Here (basically, unicorns aren’t around any more because they didn’t listen so they died in the flood …a lesson I do love to teach a child lol). I was also presented with this option for “real” unicorn:

Soooo….I needed to get creative. I decided I had three options:

1. God didn’t make unicorns, you’ll have to ask him about that

2. Santa only brings toys

3. Here’s a toy, You can make it real in your imagination

I decided on option #3. I knew about Pinkalicious so I knew that she has an imaginary friend who was a unicorn. A kind lady at Barnes and Noble saw my confused face in the kids section and asked what I was looking for. I told her I needed to produce a real unicorn for Christmas. She laughed and asked if I knew the book Goldilicious…all about Pinkalicious’ imaginary unicorn and then she told me that there was a stuffed unicorn that went with it. Hmmmmmm….I think this might work!! So, I purchased the book and ordered the stuffed unicorn. I found the Pinkalicious doll at Walmart later that day. I knew I needed something else though. I needed an explanation. I needed something putting this all together for Miss Raleigh….Santa had some ‘splaining to do (yes, you should read that in your best Desi Arnaz ‘I Love Lucy’ voice)!

$18 and one stop at Hobby Lobby I had the fixings for a Glitzy letter from The North Pole:

1 Pack of Heavy Textured Plain White Notecards

1 Pack of Heavy Textured Red Envelopes

1 Pack of metallic pens

1 fancy swirly pearl/crystal embellishment for the envelope

1 crystal “R” embellishment for the card

It only took me a couple drafts on Christmas Eve to come up with the wording….I set it all up, said a little prayer she wasn’t totally devastated and went to bed!

For some reason I can’t get the video to embed here…so, if you’d like to watch her reaction on Christmas Morning click HERE

A Very Special Christmas Gift

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! This one was very nice…lots of time with family on Christmas Eve and a beautiful Christmas morning! This year I received a very special gift that I wanted to share with you all. I haven’t shared much on here about my relationship with my boyfriend, Jeff. We met last January and as life would have it, Jeff was in the midst of prepping to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be near his sons. We never intended to fall in love…but well, that’s most definitely what happened. As anyone who has met Jeff will attest to, he is an amazing man. A kind soul, a loving heart and in my humble opinion, also a total hottie ;) !!

Before he left, my dear friend and talented photographer Alecia took some very special pictures of us together. They captured us so well….we may or may not laugh a lot when we are together..or over FaceTime or text! Apparently I cackle, something I learned about myself from Jeff, gee thanks lol!!

Jeff moved in July and since then, we’ve been keeping up our relationship long distance. It’s complicated and it’s not easy…made infinitely more bearable by FaceTime and the ability to just hang out together on a Friday night and listen to music or just lay on the couch talking, be it many miles apart.

Anyway, last month at some point, while killing time on Pinterest (as is my habit) I came across a Pin of a necklace and I fell in love with it and what it meant! I pinned it & tweeted how much I loved it. The designers description read:

“These knots represent all the twists and turns we take in our life and in our relationships with friends, and family. The result is complicated, beautiful and unique.”

On Christmas Eve, I unwrapped my gift from Jeff and was so excited to see my Love Knot Necklace :) !!!!! Life is so complicated, so many changes we never see coming, so many turns that blindside us…but really, it is so beautiful. My life at this moment is not what I would have expected, not what I’d planned a few years ago…but it’s my life and I think it beautiful and I am happy.

Here it is….

Thank you dear sweet Jeff for my beautiful Gift!!!

Thank you Natasha Gasso for your beautiful handiwork!!

Please go check out her Etsy Store if you would like to purchase a Love Knot Necklace of your own!

Tomorrow I’ll share about how Raleigh’s request for a “real” unicorn went :) !
